Tasting Notes

Pale gold in colour, the 2017 Estate Chardonnay is bright and lively. Lemon zest, orange blossom and fresh apricot on the nose are supported with a hint of toast. Medium-bodied on the palate, it remains fresh with elements of Bartlett pear and clementine. Drinking beautifully now, this wine will continue to evolve in bottle for the next 5-7 years.

92 points, John Szabo, MS, www.winealign.com  Year after year, Hidden Bench's blend of their three estate vineyards is among the most reliably impressive Canadian chardonnays. This 2017 is a topsy-turvy ride of ripe and tart fruit, sweet and fresh, lively and unctuous, with no obvious influence from oak aside from the creamy, lightly leesy texture that barrel fermentation and ageing often entails. I like the walk between density and liveliness, coming across as neither lean nor fat, just finding a happy milieu in the comfort zone. There's genuine depth of flavour here, the kind that only comes from low yields and careful farming. Admirable consistency. Drink now-2024.
