Wine Region: Bordeaux, France
Grape: Cabernet Franc, Merlot
This warm and dry year was particularly favorable to Merlot. While it May not have the extraordinary concentration of 2005, 2006 Cheval Blanc is a rich, powerful wine with ripe fruit aromas.
About the Winery
At the confluence of Isle and Dordogne, the territory of the appellation d'origine contrôlée "Saint-Emilion" is located east of Libourne, around the city of Saint-Emilion located on a limestone plateau. Château Cheval Blanc occupies a special position in the appellation. Because while most of the other famous Saint-Emilion crus are located on the limestone formations dating from the Tertiary, Cheval Blanc is located on the Quaternary alluvial deposits of Isle. It shares this formation, non-calcareous and of varied texture, with most prestigious Pomerol wines. However, Cheval Blanc enjoys a unique terroir, where gravel and clay cohabit in roughly equal proportion. A pure chance, yet fundamental in its history.
