Winery Profile:
Gut Oggau was established by Eduard Tscheppe and Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck in 2007. The estate covers approximately 14 hectares (34.6 acres) of vineyards situated on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl in the Burgenland region of Austria, where a variety of grape varieties, both red and white, are cultivated.
What sets Gut Oggau apart is its imaginative labeling and storytelling approach. Each wine is represented by a fictional family member, depicted on the label with an artistic illustration. These characters, such as “Atanasius,” “Winifred,” or “Emmeram,” are given unique personalities and traits that are said to reflect the characteristics of the wine inside the bottle.
Gut Oggau follows biodynamic farming principles, which involve organic cultivation methods and a holistic approach to vineyard management. They prioritize biodiversity, soil health, and the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem. The winery also practices natural winemaking techniques, with minimal intervention in the cellar and the use of wild yeasts for fermentation.
