Schloss Gobelsburg Riesling Beerenauslese 2014 375ml

$69.00

Selected from both Gaisberg and Heiligenstein, this ennobled elixir delivers honeyed, smoky, and faintly reductive aromas whose counterpart on the palate is the simultaneous richness and tartness of quince and gooseberry preserves, laced with fresh lime and allied to mouthwatering salinity and a marine alkalinity. Polished and penetrating, it harbors impressive potential. The preceding account dates to my late May encounter, but I am publishing it here in case I do not get chance to assess the wine from bottle.

Winery Profile:
Winemaking at the castle dates back several centuries. The oldest archaeological record finds the Gobelsburg’s site dates back some 4,000 years, and a castle of this name is mentioned in 1178. The castle and grounds were sold to the Cistercian monks of Zwettl Abbey in 1740 and have been in its possession ever since. In 1996, the present managers, Michael Moosbrugger and Willi Bründlmayer, took over the management of the property. The winery and the wines have won numerous awards and accolades.
