In addition to its single malt, Amrut also produces a whisky made entirely from European malted rye. Aged 5 years old, it was launched on the European market by La Maison du Whisky in 2017. Matured in a cask previously containing one of the first single malt rye whiskies produced by the Bangalore distillery, this bottling immediately transports us to the heart of Kentucky. On an aromatic front, notes of malted barley and rye literally rise from the glass, rivalling each other in intensity. Buttressed on superb cereal notes, from start to finish it reveals incredible balance and softness, despite the particularly high alcohol content.
Refined, powerful. On the first nose, malted barley and rye monopolize the aromatic palette. Notes of warm biscuit and candied lemon. Allowed to breathe, it becomes mentholated, vanilla and spicy (clove, pink peppercorn). The clean attack is exotic (passion fruit) and liquorice. The mid-palate wavers between heady florals (carnation), cocoa powder and pear. The energetic finish takes on oriental tones (turkish delight, chai latte).
