Wine region: Adelaide Hills, Australia
Grape: Pinot Gris
Light golden yellow in colour, the nose shows nashi pear, lemon blossom, spice , nuts and honey. Plenty of freshly cut pear characters dominant the pallet , beautifully weighted and balanced. Some creaminess and minerally notes from the 12 months in the Sonoma stone egg round out the wine nicely. Textural and persistent length.
Vinous 91 pts - Ripe citrus fruits, candied ginger, fennel and dusty minerals on the vibrant nose. Silky, focused and dry on the palate, showing very good depth and thrust to its fresh orchard fruit, lemon pith and honeysuckle flavors; a note of quinine gives the wine a refreshingly bitter edge. Finishes juicy and quite long, with excellent clarity and an emphatic echo of minerality.
James Suckling 90 pts -A touch of bronze in the glass and quite locked up on the nose, this has a savory edge that looks to usurp any fruitiness, smells of apples, ripe pears and dried figs once the reduction blows clear. The palate has smooth textural appeal, some wheaty leesy flavors, a fine-grained finish with almond meal and marzipan. Made for the dining table. Drink now.
About the Winery
BK Wines was established in 2007 by Brendon and Kirstyn Keys. The goal has been to create fabulous art. Beautiful, unique, sensuous, deceptively minimalist, envelope-pushing art. After learning from masters in NZ, Argentina and California, we trained our sites on the Adelaide Hills because it's just a cracking great place to live and make wine. With no pretentions to be somewhere it's not and few preconceived notions about what wine styles to expect, this is a place where non-conformity is the rule. Our little winery is situated in the Hills where it is tucked away surrounded by bush land.
The fruit is all handpicked and wild yeasts are used during fermentation. Brendon uses a minimalist approach to gently guide well-chosen fruit to a beautiful final result in the bottle.
