Wine Region: Margaret River, Australia
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec
A dark and dense nose of blue and blackberries dominate the nose, complimented by a lifted and fragrant aromatic profile. Perfumed violets amongst black cardamom, olive, anise, cloves and bay leaf provide subtle and classical layers. The palate has concentration, depth and poise set with a blackberry, cherry and mulberry fruit spectrum. Layers and contours unfold into cassia, cocoa and coffee beans through the mid palate. There is vibrancy and seamless structure given a finely laced acid line and gravelly tannins.
Huon Hooke 96 pts - "Very deep red/purple colour. The bouquet is all about concentrated, perfectly-ripened cabernet fruit embellished with stylish oak. Cedar and berries. The wine is very intense and cast in an elegant but full-bodied style, with red berry fruit in abundance on the palate. The tannins are emphatic but fine and restrained, beautifully tailored. A lovely wine indeed - to cellar or enjoy now."
About the Winery
Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world's finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate.
