A savoury line is also evident with sesame brittle, cinnamon stick, rice wafer and hints of cornmeal. On the palate, woven layers of intense white fleshed fruits, diligent oak handling and effortless texture meet seamlessly and are driven by a mineral saline acid spine. Pears, grapefruit and white nectarine are the key fruits of the palate, which is focused with remarkable length and possesses amazing longevity
Wine Spectator 96 pts - Elegant and graceful, this opens to supple lemon and tangerine flavors, accented by spice, cedar, mineral and white floral touches. Everything is precise and supple, with a juicy touch on the epic finish. Drink now through 2026.
James Suckling 94 pts - Fabulous flamboyance and opulence yet a freshness and brightness underneath. Full body, lemon curd, apple meringue undertones. Vibrant finish. Screw cap. Drink now.
Robert Parker 93 pts - The 2013 Chardonnay Art Series is very ripe and rich, with a tropical nose of ginger, brioche and honeyed peach. The medium-bodied palate reveals a pleasant oiliness, which is in synch with the spicy richness. The finish has great length and freshness supporting the many layers.
Wine Enthusiast 93 pts - As always at Leeuwin Estate, the Art Series Chardonnay is a star. Now incorporating some natural ferments and slightly more solids, the 2013 features some more savory elements than in the past. A hint of pencil shavings highlights the pear and pineapple fruit, which offers plenty of flesh without being overbearing.
About the Winery
Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world's finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate.
