Wine Region: Australia

Grape: Riesling

Tasting Notes

Bright straw green in colour. The 2016 Riesling exhibits concentrated aromas of citrus blossom, sweet spice, musk and subtle perfume of golden delicious apples. The palate reveals incredible freshness with soft lingering flavours of freshly cut Australian finger limes, crisp granny smith and jasmine spice which are balanced and fine, the delicate natural acidity drives the pallet into a persistent mineral finish.

Robert Parker 90 ptsFrom 40-year-old original plantings, the 2015 Riesling Art Series is very pretty on the nose with honeysuckle, peach blossom and lime cordial notes, as well as a touch of anise. Light-bodied and dry, with great intensity, this wine has approachable softness and great length.

Wine Enthusiast 90 pts - Leeuwin Estate 2015 Art Series Riesling (Margaret River). Tasted blind, this wasn't particularly different from the other Rieslings in its flight, which were predominantly South Australian. It's got those same wet stone and citrus tendencies and is made in the same medium-bodied, dry, high acid style. There's a touch of pineapple as well, plus a long, dry crisp finish.

About the Winery

Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world's finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate.
