MARQUES DE MURRIETA GRAN RESERVA 2012

Wine Region: Rioja, Spain

Grape: Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, Granacha

Tasting Notes

Dark intense red brick colour with a mature aroma of mellow red and dark fruits with hint of spicy oak. Full bodied and generous fruit softening as it matures. Lovely finish full of spicy fruit as it starts to soften and mature.

Ratings

James Suckling 94- "Initial oaky aromas dissipate and settle on road tar blackness. A lush, fleshy palate is braced with acidity, while this gran reserva tastes of plum, cassis, tobacco and brown sugar. Fresh acidity creates length on a finish with mocha, chocolate and spice flavors. This needs more time to show its best; drink through 2028"

About the Winery
Marques de Murrieta´s foundation is linked to the origins of the Rioja wines since Luciano Murrieta produced in 1852 the first Rioja wine and was also the first one to export his wines. Luciano, appointed Marquis by the King Amadeo of Savoy thanks to his work in Rioja, travelled to Bordeaux to learn the winemaking techniques that he introduced later in Spain. He established the concept of a chateau in the Ygay Estate where he built the emblematic Ygay Castle.
