Poderi Crisci Chardonnay is produced in the true Burgundian style with a nod to the Friuli region of Italy. Whilst we know we shouldn't really have favourites among our wines, we just can't help falling in love a little extra with this Chardonnay. This wine transcends the fruit and displays all the myriads of characteristics that one would expect from a great wine.
Hand picking and sorting, foot stomped and then basket pressed, they first extract a clean, crisp juice from the grapes. Fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks before being passed into Burgundian shaped French oak barrels half way through fermentation. The wine is left on the lees right until the time of bottling. The regular stirring of the lees as well as 11 months in French oak add complexity to the finished wine.
What ensues is an elegant young Chardonnay with a flirtatious light straw colour. Incredibly complex, flinty nose with dried lemon and orange rind, offering hints of freshly grilled nuts (almond) and marzipan alongside zests of citrus fruits.. The palate is very rich and full with enormous weight, pure fruit with faint underlying barrel aging characters. A very finely structured wine with a good drive leading into a great lingering finish. An unmistakable Burgundian style Chardonnay.
