The Poderi Crisci Syrah is an atypical style for Waiheke Island, leaning more towards the traditional French Cote Rotie style than the New World. The wine displays a great deal of red fruit and has a beautiful deep fragrance. Syrah itself is sometimes described as a double concentrated Pinot Noir and the Poderi Crisci Syrah captures this beautifully.
Poderi Crisci has only five rows of Syrah planted, typically offering up only 600-900 bottles. The fruit was hand harvested and sorted, and after fermentation with wild yeasts, the wine is aged in French oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and 22 months of ageing.
Another excellent example of premium wine from this winery, the wine is very perfumed with a dense nose, good red and black fruit concentration with very appealing spicy notes. Also some floral touches and hints of roses. The palate is very youthful with lifted red fruit and more floral notes. Lots of cherry and cherry stone, very balanced and fine, cedary cigarbox tannins give great length to the palate.
This wine exhibits a bright cherry jam aroma with notes of black pepper and spice....
