Wine Region: Niederösterreich, Austria
Grape: Pinot Noir
Last year's trio of wines was an achievement such as one couldn't dare have hoped for as recently as ten years ago. Hell, five. I thought it had to be a one-time harmonic convergence, and had tempered expectations for the lighter wines. They are lighter, but this has a fetching aroma, quite cool, quite Morey S.D., and the palate follows lovely and charming and with a little tease of asperity; you lose your heart to a wine like this, so lacy and tender yet so firm and determined. I do, at any rate, but I adore the virtues of lightness as long as the wine has The Goods.
88 Points- Robert Parker
"Leading with a salty, smoky, slightly reduced aromatic profile, the Gobelsburg 2011 Pinot Noir deploys tart-edged sour cherry and tomato on the juicy palate, smoked meat savor and pit piquancy informing a mouthwatering if rather chewy finish."
88 Points- Wine Enthusiast
"The gentle red currant and rasperry fruit in this subtly oaked red lurks amid notes of spicy pepper, undergrowth and autumn leaves. There is a gentle grip and a very natural, unforced sense of elegance to the structure."
